Who’d have thought you could walk five kilometres, raise money for a local charity AND at the same time look like glamorous socialite?
The Helensburgh branch of ENABLE Scotland has teamed up with the Helensburgh and Lomond Carers project to organise a Ladies of the Night Tiara Walk. The walk starts at 9pm on Friday 10th September and will take in a route showing off the beautiful moonlit scenery around Helensburgh. If you are in the area and you’d like to register you can visit the Helensburgh and Lomond Carers Centre on Saturday 14th August between 10am and 2pm or you can call 01436 673 444 for more information. It only costs £15 to register!
At ENABLE Scotland we have 59 voluntary branches throughout the country offering a range of activities and clubs for people who have learning disabilities. Our branches also campaign on issues that affect their local communities and take part in national campaigns too.
They do great work and they are always looking for volunteers to help run clubs and activities, drive mini-buses and help fundraise – if you are interested in volunteering for your local ENABLE Scotland branch you can find a list of branches here. If you want to find out how to get in touch with them you can contact our information service on 0141 226 4541.

This is a new publication from the Scottish Government and COSLA. They want to ensure that carers are supported to manage their caring responsibilities with confidence and in good health, and to have a life of their own outside of caring. They have worked together with a range of interests, including Health Boards, the national carer organisations and carers in developing this strategy. It will build on the support already in place and take forward the recommendations of Care 21: The Future of Unpaid Care in Scotland.

We were really pleased to get to the final of the Care Accolades 2010. The Care Accolades is a prestigious awards ceremony hosted by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) which celebrates the very best of the care sector across Scotland.
There were 8 categories and ENABLE Scotland was the runner up in the ‘Putting Personalisation into Practice’ category.
A team of eight were at the ceremony in Aviemore on 11th June to fly the flag for ENABLE Scotland – with a mix of staff and people we support making the trip.
You can have a look at our nomination video below – congratulations to the team!
