After years of campaigning, we’re chuffed to bits that hate crime against people with learning disabilities will now be treated in the same way as racially motivated attacks.
The Hate Crime Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament this week. It was the first time that a bill has ever been passed unanimously and with no amendments. What an endorsement!

Our Chief Executive Norman Dunning is in today’s Glasgow Herald talking about it.
“Over a third of people with learning disabilities suffer ongoing verbal and physical abuse.
Invoking the category of hate crime does more than impose heavier sentences for the perpetrators – it sends out a message to the wider public that attacking this particularly vulnerable group is unacceptable.”
