Success for Bus Pass Campaign

Success for #StoptheBus Campaign

We have some brilliant campaign news...  and it is all thanks to you!

ENABLE Scotland is delighted that the Minister for Transport and Islands, Derek McKay MSP, has responded to our #StoptheBus campaign and taken action to resolve the issues we raised.

Our #StoptheBus campaign asked the Scottish Government to improve access to the National Concessionary Travel Scheme for people who have learning disabilities.

The Minister has agreed that the bus pass application process needs to be improved so that people with learning disabilities can access the bus pass that they are entitled to.

We are delighted to update you that he has now instructed his team to work with ENABLE Scotland to review this with a view to designing better access to the scheme within the next four months.

This means that more people who have learning disabilities will be able to celebrate the New Year with a new bus pass and can look forward to independent travel throughout their local communities.

In times of welfare reform and social care budget cuts, this is the best long term outcome for many people who have learning disabilities; meaning their bus pass is not dependent on their benefit award.

#StoptheBus: The Journey to making this change…

Since launching in May  2015 the #StoptheBus campaign has been featured in national newspapers and TV; this has generated lots of conversation, with lots of people to signing up to the campaign as a result!

Our ACE members and campaign supporters have been out in their communities getting people on board every day…

Thanks to you our #StoptheBus petition has had over 2,000 signatures in just 2 months!

The Campaign was endorsed by both the Cross Party Group on Learning Disability and the Cross Party Group on Disability.

#StoptheBus campaigners also went on tour across Scotland making a special campaign stop at the Scottish Parliament to get MSPs on board!

Many of our campaigners also wrote to their MSPs and we were delighted that #StoptheBus received cross party support as a result!
