Get Campaigning

ENABLE Scotland has been a campaigning organisation for over 50 years. By campaigning, sometimes on our own and often with others, ENABLE Scotland has made a difference.  For instance:

  • We fought for education for all in the 60s and 70s
  • We helped to shape the ideas in the Disabled Person's (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986 – the forerunner of much of today's disability and community care legislation
  • We campaigned to make it easier to act on behalf of adults who lack capacity. The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000 was one of the first laws passed by the Scottish Parliament.

Why campaign?

Campaigning is vital to achieving change for people who have learning disabilities. Campaigning can take place at both a local and national level. By campaigning locally and helping to support our national campaigns you can help us to improve the lives of people who have learning disabilities.
