Preparing for Assessments
Try
to be prepared for an assessment so you are really clear about what you
and your child need and can ask for this. Make sure you have thought
about how your child’s disability affects him or her and the rest of the
family – including the impact that it has had on your own life. It can
be hard to do this but the worker who does the assessment needs to build
a picture of your needs. He or she may need to take that information
back to their agency so a more senior manager can make the decision
about what resources you might get.
The more you can contribute to the assessment, the more helpful this will be.
