Carers Assessment

Carer’s Assessment

You are a carer if you look after a relative, partner or friend who needs support because of age, disability or illness. This includes parents who are caring for a child or adult son or daughter. You have a right to ask for an individual assessment to discuss what help you need to continue in your caring role.

A carer’s assessment will cover:
  • what help is needed by the child or adult you care for;
  • what help you provide at the moment;
  • how being a carer affects your life;
  • your ability and willingness to continue providing care; nad
  • what kind of services and support are available that might help you continue in your caring role.
