A picture of a young mansupported by ENABLE working with The Co-operative
Young people with a learning disability are verbally abused, bullied, physically hurt, marginalised and left out of everyday life. Often they are unable to find a job, and are left with nothing to do.

Many are living with their parents into adulthood and old age, and are surrounded by people who are paid to be with them rather than friends or colleagues. They are more likely to have low self esteem, to feel worthless and to be regarded as a burden - simply because they have been born with a learning disability.

These are the young people ENABLE Scotland and Mencap want to help.

We want to challenge the barriers that lead to exclusion, lack of progression, unfulfilled young people and wasted lives. And we want parents to have ambition for their children too.
Inspire Me will work with young people aged 16 to 25 to improve the skills and opportunities available through ‘Inspire Me' workshops in schools, colleges, local groups and community clubs. The project will also:

·         reach out to young people and local communities through community impact projects, to promote awareness, understanding and create opportunities
·         promote positive role models through the Inspire Me young ambassadors
·         provide focused support, guidance and information through a dedicated young people's website
·         organise family information events and support and advise the parents of young people with a learning disability, so they are able to help their child achieve the best possible future
·         deliver in-house and e-learning awareness workshops to schools, colleges, community clubs and The Co-operative Group.
