The Co-operative Group chose ENABLE Scotland, along with our sister charity Mencap in England and Wales, as their Charity of the Year 2011.

Throughout 2011, the partnership grew day by day showing no signs of slowing down and The Co-operative staff across Scotland took part in a variety of fundraising events including abseils, charity football games and our most daredevil-tastic adrenaline challenge we have ever organised before…

We launched our newest adrenaline challenge titled “The Big Swing”, which was exactly that – a swing, suspended from the 150 ft Titan Crane, that swings out and over the River Clyde like a huge pendulum before eventually lowering thrill seekers back to the ground.

ENABLE Scotland was the first charity in Scotland to participate in the swing and we were thrilled to launch it as part of The Co-operative Charity of the Year fundraising events.

We approached the end of our Charity of the Year partnership with The Co-operative Group sharing incredible news that we very comfortably hit our target to raise £500,000 towards our Inspire Me programme that will work with young people with learning disabilities across Scotland to help transform the lives and dreams of thousands of young people who have a learning disability.

The Co-operative’s support will allow ENABLE Scotland and Mencap to launch a ground-breaking programme, called Inspire Me, which will work with 20,000 people who have a learning disability to provide activities and training, together with volunteering and employment opportunities.

We would like to once again thank everyone who has taken part in the year-long fundraising activities. The money you raised will have a lasting impact on young adults with learning disabilities across Scotland for years to come.
