Some of our founder members
ENABLE Scotland was set up in 1954 by 5 parents who wanted better services and support for themselves and their children with learning disabilities. Until 1993, the organisation was known as the Scottish Society for the Mentally Handicapped.

Today, ENABLE Scotland has grown into a strong organisation with a voluntary membership of over 4000 people. We still campaign and lobby for improvement to the lives of children and adults with learning disabilities and their families as well as running a growing range of direct services that enable people to live the lives they want.
