Joan Fraser
How long have you been a member of ENABLE Scotland?
20 years
How did you get involved?
I used o get on the bus every morning and so did the people from the local adult training center. There’s a solidarity that develops on public transport. This was in the days before mobile phones, so when we broke down or we were delayed it was me who went to the phone box to contact people’s parents. It really just grew from there.
What’s the best thing about being part of ENABLE Scotland?
The people you meet, without a doubt. I’ve had some great experiences and even been to Spain and Portugal with the group. I’ve been places and met people I’d never have had the opportunity to otherwise.
What difference has being a member made to your life?
Wherever I go I bump into people who I know. If I can’t place their faces, I’ll always ask them if they’re part of ENABLE Scotland and nine times out of ten, that’s how I know them. It’s great to feel you’re part of a community.
