Fiona's Story
"I volunteer as a short-break carer. I look after a child with a learning disability for a few hours a week, to give her a change of scenery and let her parents have a break from caring.
"I love it. I’ve built up a great relationship with the young woman who I look after, but I don’t have a full-time commitment, which means I can carry on working. I received great training that moved at a good pace and made me feel well-prepared.
"I’ll never forget the time that the young woman I look after, who has learning disabilities, wrote me a note saying ‘you are my best friend’. It was such a moving moment and it made all the work worthwhile."
