Hilary's Story

"I'm 54, I'm too old to be sharing a room "

"I have my own house in Easterhouse, with my own front door: a red one, with a brass plaque with my name on it. I decide who comes into my house and when. I love having visitors over. I always make them a cup of tea and put some music on. My favourite thing is having my friends over for a karaoke night. I like to entertain them all with my favourite song- paper roses.

"ENABLE Scotland have been supporting me to live here for a few years now. I’m much happier now. I like to be involved with what’s happening, to know what’s going on. But I also like to be able to close the door at the end of the night and have some time to myself. In my old house, I had to share a room with another woman, who I didn’t really know. The house was full of other people and there were always staff around.

"Now, my life is designed around what I want. I’m always involved with decisions and I love sitting browsing through brochures to see the options. I love holiday and I’m hoping to go away to Spain this year. I can’t wait."
