Co-operative Staff Take part in M74 Bike and Hike Event for ENABLE Scotland

Forty members of staff from The Co-operative took part in one of the most unique fundraising events of 2011 for learning disability charity ENABLE Scotland by walking, running and cycling along the new stretch of the M74 on Sunday 22 May.

The event was organised by Glasgow City Council to allow members of the public the chance to see the long awaited M74 completion route before it officially opens and raise money for charity at the same time.

Jen Niven from ENABLE Scotland said: "The Co operative staff have seized the opportunity to get involved in this historical event.  The event offers participants the chance to get family, friends and colleagues completely behind the partnership and enjoy a fun experience  that will be talked about for years to come"

ENABLE Scotland and sister charity Mencap are The Co-operative’s Charity of the Year partners and the Group is raising money for the charities over the course of 2011, to help transform the lives and dreams of 20,000 young people who have a learning disability. So far £165,000 has been raised, through various activities by The Co-operative Group Scotland, for the charities.

The Co-operative’s support will allow ENABLE Scotland and Mencap to launch a ground-breaking programme called Inspire Me which will work with 20,000 people who have a learning disability to provide activities and training, together with volunteering and employment opportunities.
