Co-operative staff abseil the Mighty Titan

On Sunday 15 May 71 members of staff from The Co-operative Group took the plunge and abseiled from Scotland’s famous 150 ft TITAN CRANE raising almost £11,500 for learning disability charity ENABLE Scotland and sister charity Mencap.

Big hearted staff from The Co-operative travelled from throughout Scotland to take part. The furthest travelled was William Garriock, from Kirkwall who undertook a 470 round trip.

The Titan Crane has stood on the banks of the River Clyde for over 100 years and is a prominent landmark on the skyline.

ENABLE Scotland and Mencap are The Co-operative’s Charity of the Year partners and the Group is raising money for the charities over the course of 2011, to help transform the lives and dreams of 20,000 young people who have a learning disability. So far £165,000 has been raised, through various activities by The Co-operative Group Scotland, for the charities.

The Co-operative’s support will allow ENABLE Scotland and Mencap to launch a ground-breaking programme called Inspire Me which will work with 20,000 people who have a learning disability to provide activities and training, together with volunteering and employment opportunities.

Jen Niven from ENABLE Scotland said: “The Co operative staff have really embraced this challenge. We are so thrilled to be working alongside dedicated individuals who are completely committed to making our partnership a success”.
