ENABLE Scotland Kicks off Charity Partnership

Last Friday ENABLE Scotland was involved in the first of many events supporting our Charity of the Year 2011 Partnership with The Cooperative Group and sister charity Mencap. Ross Ward, Ambassador for ENABLE Scotland and Peter Scott, Chief Executive were on hand at Hampden Park in Glasgow to help with The Co-operative Insurance Cup Semi-final Draw.

The Co-operative will embark on a year-long, fun-filled and creative programme of fundraising in 2011, to help transform the lives and dreams of 20,000 young people with a learning disability by raising a target £5 million for ENABLE Scotland and Mencap.

ENABLE Scotland Ambassador, Ross Ward made the draw alongside Joe Cairney, Regional Manager for CFS in Scotland and the draw is as follows:

Aberdeen v Celtic
Rangers v Motherwell

Ross who is 27 and from Helensburgh has previously received funding from the ENABLE Scotland and now carries out fundraising on its behalf. ENABLE Scotland's Chief Executive Peter Scott said, “It is fantastic for ENABLE Scotland to be associated with The Co-operative Group as its Charity of the Year 2011 and to be asked to take part in the draw for the semi-finals of The Co-operative Insurance Cup was a great honour for us.”

Ross is a huge sports fan and when we thought about who would be the most appropriate person to carry out the role, he was the first choice. This is something that would never have come about without the partnership with The Co-operative and it will do wonders for Ross and his confidence. Ross is a great Ambassador for us. The role he carries out is not just about highlighting ENABLE Scotland and its services, it is also about developing the individual. Ross acts as a role model to other young people who receive support from the charity as they look at him and see what is possible with their own lives. The draw ran like clock-work and Ross can be proud of the role he played.”

The charity will benefit from bucket collections at both the semi-finals scheduled for 29 and 30 January 2010 and, the final at Hampden Park on 20 March 2011.
