East Kilbride campaigners win award for action on behalf of older carers

Jeanette Kelly and Madge Clarke from the Murray Owens Older Carers’ Group in East Kilbride received the Jess Barrow Award for excellence in campaigning on behalf of older people at the Age Scotland Annual General Meeting in Edinburgh on 14 April.
 
Founder members of the Murray Owens Older Carers’ Group, they have campaigned tirelessly to gain recognition for the work of older carers, working with Scotland’s leading charity that supports people who have learning disabilities and their families – ENABLE Scotland.
 
Age Scotland Chair James Wright presented the award, along with a cheque for £250 which will help fund future campaigning work by the group.
 
Jeanette Kelly, who collected the award in person with group member Chris Thomson, said “ Madge and I are delighted to receive recognition for all our hard work and this money will allow us to continue campaigning for all older carers and the family they care for. Kathy Hunter from ENABLE Scotland said: “It is great to see the work of Jeanette and Madge being recognised. The Murray Owen Older Carers Group offers a great support network for older carers in East Kilbride”.
