Food Safety for the Care Sector

For anyone involved in any type of food handling particularly staff working in the care field.

This course will improve your food safety knowledge and skills to enable you to support people in safe food hygiene practices, and provide a basic introduction to food hygiene legislation. The course involves a mix of information, discussion and practical exercises. You will cover:

  • the principles of food safety and how to prevent food poisoning;
  • knowledge of how to support people who use services in safe food hygiene practices; and
  • Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) assessment and action planning.

This course is linked to SVQ Health and Social Care Units 213 & 214. It is recommended that staff undertake a refresher course every three years.
