Protecting Adults from Harm
 
This course is aimed at support staff working with people at risk of harm. It will explore what “harm” actually means, increase knowledge about its prevention and appropriate response, how and what to report.
 
It will be particularly helpful for anyone who is working towards an SVQ in Health & Social Care. This course links to SVQ units HSC units 35, 335, 337, 395, 24, 226, 232.
 
Course aim:
 
To enable participants to recognise the many different forms of harm and how to prevent it and respond accordingly.
Course objectives:
 
  • To have an understanding of harm and its many forms
  • To recognise the rights of people with learning disabilities
  • To understand what might contribute to a worker harming someone in their care
  • To understand what might contribute to a person with a learning disability harming others
  • How to respond to a disclosure of harm or abuse
  • How to record and report harm that is suspected or confirmed.
