REHIS Elementary Health and Safety
A one day course for anyone requiring a greater understanding and knowledge of health & safety and how to apply it in the workplace.
This course is suitable for you if you are a line manager, Health & Safety representative or a member of staff with responsibility for ensuring that good health and safety practices are followed in the workplace.
You will receive a REHIS booklet, covering a pre-set syllabus and will undertake a multiple-choice examination paper (lasting up to 30 minutes). The course involves a mix of information, group exercises and practical tasks. Special arrangements can be made for candidates who need support with language or written skills.
You will cover:
- health & safety law
- the steps in the risk assessment process
- the main requirements for the general working environment
- the significance of slips, trips & falls and how to prevent them
- substances hazardous to health, requirements of the COSHH regulations and measures to control risks
- the main causes of occupational ill-health and the steps to control and prevent it
- the main hazards associated with machinery and equipment, appropriate control measures and the provisions of PUWER regulations
- the significance of manual handling injuries, correct procedures and the main requirements of the MHO Regulations
- the dangers of electricity and common electrical hazards, basic first aid, appropriate use and maintenance of plugs, fuses, cable & flex, adaptors, RCDs and the Electricity at Work Regulations
- the dangers associated with fire, measures to prevent the start & spread of fire and adequate methods of raising the alarm, escape routes
- the factors leading to accidents, actions to be taken, RIDDOR, reporting and recording accidents, the provision of first aid and the health & safety (First Aid) Regulations.
