Personalisation is the process defined by the Department of Health by which “every person who receives support, whether provided by statutory services or funded by themselves, will have choice and control over the shape of that support in all care settings".
Personalisation captures ENABLE Scotland’s long-standing ambition for people who have learning disabilities to be valued and respected, and be given the opportunity to direct their own support and make the big decisions that affect their life.
This can only happen when any support or services that they need:
- are designed around their individual needs and goals ;
- build on their strengths as individuals and any contribution they can make;
- build on any contribution their families, friends or networks can make; and
- are flexible enough to adapt and change as they progress and develop throughout their lives.
