Update from Group CEO

March 24, 2020 CEO blog Theresa Shearer

Thank you all for working with us as we have responded to these challenging circumstances together over the past few days and weeks.

As a country, we now move into a phase of restriction of movement unlike anything any of us have experienced before. In light of last night’s announcement from the Prime Minister, I wanted to reassure you that we are here for you all as our staff team, and to help you understand what this will mean for you and your families.

The position as of today is that people should leave home only for:

  • Shopping for basic necessities
  • One form of exercise a day
  • Any medical need/care for a vulnerable person
  • Travelling to and from work, only if absolutely necessary

Our frontline staff are key workers and are exempt from the restrictions announced last night – for the purposes of going to and from work, because it is absolutely necessary that you do. I say to you – you are providing lifeline care and support to some of society’s most vulnerable people – and we all thank you so very much. We are so proud, and so grateful. Please ensure that you have your ID with you at all times – either the letter or the image we have previously issued downloaded to your mobile as a screensaver, and remember that this will assist you in accessing local childcare provision, if you need it.

We are ready for this.

We have successfully tested that all of our core operations can be delivered remotely, and we are now focusing all of our efforts on supporting the continued delivery of care and support for the people we support. There is no doubt that the coming weeks will be the toughest we have ever faced, and I want to reassure our frontline staff that we are with you, and we are 100% focused on supporting you to keep going, including an urgent focus on recruitment to help ease pressures on local teams.

A further communication will be issued by the end of the day with updates to guidance in the COVID-19 Staff Portal, and we will keep in touch with you regularly over the coming days and weeks.

The word heroes has been used many times before, but you really are heroes – each and every one of you.

I will be in touch over next few days as to how we can talk more directly … I really look forward to it.
