Meet our Director of ENABLE Works (Interim)
Richard Hamer – Director of ENABLE Works (Interim)
Richard is the Director of ENABLE Works (Interim). He brings considerable experience of equalities and human rights, along with digital transformation, from his 30-year career in the third sector.
Prior to his six years in consulting, Richard held senior roles, including Programme Director for Scotland with Amnesty International, Director of External Affairs at Capability Scotland, and Director of Housing Options, a housing and disability charity.
His achievements include chairing a Scottish Government review of NHS wheelchair services, reviewing fundraising regulation for SCVO and the Scottish Government, and researching legal approaches to supported decision-making for people with a learning disability for the Big Lottery Disability Research on Independent Living and Learning programme.
Most recently, Richard used his experience implementing digital scheduling in the logistics industry to deliver a multi-award-winning digital transformation of ENABLE Scotland’s frontline services.
As Interim Director of Employment, Richard leads one of Scotland’s leading specialist employment support and skills services. This builds on his experience managing placements for employment programmes in previous roles, and of turning around a large, loss-making, supported employment social business.
Richard is a member of the Equalities Law committee of the Law Society of Scotland and is a non-executive director of Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living, whose services aim to enable disabled people to assert more control over their lives as equal citizens.
