ENABLE Scotland shortlisted for an Outstanding Leadership Award

ENABLE Scotland has been shortlisted for an Outstanding Leadership Award at the 2021 Living Wage Scotland Awards.

The awards recognise organisations across the country who are at the forefront of driving a fairer economy as an accredited living wage employer.

ENABLE Scotland is one of only three employers – and the only charity – to be shortlisted in the Outstanding Leadership category. This award recognises an employer who consistently demonstrates leadership through actions such as working to encourage others to become an accredited Living Wage employer, speaking out publicly on the real Living Wage, and going above and beyond the scope of being a real Living Wage employer.

ENABLE Group CEO Theresa Shearer said:

“We are honoured to receive this recognition from Living Wage Scotland. For years, ENABLE Scotland has campaigned for better pay for all 148,000 frontline social care workers across Scotland.

“This nomination recognises that ENABLE Scotland has taken the initiative to lead change in a traditionally low-paid sector – by paying the real Living Wage for every hour worked before all our commissioners funded us to do so; by becoming the largest social care provider in Scotland to be an accredited real Living Wage Employer; and now paying all our frontline care workers more than the real Living Wage for the vital and outstanding work they do.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has made it clearer than ever that excellent human rights-driven self-directed social care and support is absolutely critical to an integrated health and care system, and our action to pay more than the real Living Wage for every hour worked helps ensure social care is an attractive, flexible and rewarding career choice.”

ENABLE Scotland is among 2,000 organisations who are formally recognised as accredited living wage employers. The Living Wage Awards on 19 November celebrate employers who choose to go further than the Government minimum by demonstrating that a real Living Wage is good for business, good for workers and good for society.
