Funded by the Big Lottery Fund Scotland since 2014, our ENABLE U project responds to the needs of families during diagnosis, whether the diagnosis is for a learning disability, autism or ADHD.
We support families to understand what a diagnosis means for their child and for them as parents – as well as how they can adapt to challenges and find the support services they need.
Our skilled and experienced project staff visit families at home and co-ordinate a programme of workshops on positive behaviour support (PBS) and autism. They also distribute family information packs, run a parent support group in conjunction with the One Stop Shop and ASIST team (Education), and signpost families to specialist services.
Over the past 12 months, our ENABLE U team has:
- Supported 203 parents before, after and during the time of their child’s diagnosis
- Successfully run 43 parenting programme workshops with 269 attendees
- Had 181 parents confirm that they felt supported as a result of the project.
