ENABLE Works to support DYW Scotland’s Biggest Parent’s Evening 2021

A national campaign to help young people and their aspirations is being supported by ENABLE Works.

Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Event 2021 is run in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW), the Scottish Careers Service and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) to help prepare young people for the world of work.

This year, the event is being supported by ENABLE Works and its award-winning Stepping Up programme. The exemplary initiative helps young people with learning disabilities, additional support needs, and those living with autistic spectrum disorder.

The transition school programme allows young people the space to build, explore and raise their aspirations for the future with the aim of achieving an accredited qualification and a positive destination upon leaving school.

Already, the work of the Stepping Up programme has successfully helped more than 2267 young people since its launch, of which 98% of those have reached a positive destination – higher than the current school leavers statistics; 625 have achieved paid employment and it has supported 2267 young people into work placements.

Beyond the numbers, young people and their parents, who have engaged with Stepping Up programme, have antidotally spoken of increased confidence, independence and looking forward to the future.

Director of ENABLE Works, Ashley Ryan, said: “We are delighted to support Scotland’s Biggest Parents’ Event 2021 and to speak with young people, parents, guardians and schools supporting them to make the next steps in their journey from school to adulthood.

“Working in partnership with schools, Stepping Up provides specialist support which increases the aspirations of the young people who engage in the programme. It prepares them for life after school by providing opportunities to explore the world of work and supports them to compete for jobs by gaining the skills employers value. Our team also work with employers across Scotland on how best to engage with this future talent pool supporting them to create a truly diverse workforce. We look forward to highlighting the successes of our Stepping Up graduates across Scotland and are ready to continue to support those who need us to achieve the right destination for them.”

The campaign is calling on parents, guardians and carers to sign up to the event on Monday 15th November which aims to give young people positive destinations after school.

ENABLE Works staff will be on hand to support young people with additional support needs (ASN) and to inform parents and guardians of the help that is available to them.

Last year more than 880 parents, carers and guardians took part, and it is hoped the campaign will reach even more young people.

Information about careers, jobs, pathways, skills and Scotland’s Young Person’s Guarantee will be on hand with key message about the future and how employers and others are committed to guaranteeing a positive step after school.

The full-event will be broadcast online on Monday 15th November at 7pm.
