Heather Gilchrist – Virtual Kiltwalk Ambassador – ACE
Heather was delighted to be one of ENABLE Scotland’s Ambassadors for this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, she was unable to take part as the event was cancelled.
Heather was extremely upset over this as she wanted to do her best to help raise money for ENABLE Scotland’s charitable projects and services which mean so much to her.
When the Virtual Kiltwalk Weekend was announced, this meant everyone who was going to do one of the cancelled Kiltwalks could now get active on the weekend of 11th, 12th and 13th September to raise funds in what has been a uniquely challenging year for charities across Scotland.
This year has brought so many new challenges, and ENABLE Scotland has been there for Heather and for thousands of people who have a learning disability to support all through this time.
Heather feels it’s more important than ever to do her part to fundraise for a charity which means so much to her– and we hope you would consider sponsoring Heather for the Virtual Kiltwalk.
With ENABLE Scotland’s local ACE (Active Community of Empowered people) groups unable to meet due to Coronavirus, our amazing members helped the team at ENABLE Scotland create ACE Connect. ACE Connect has allowed our ACE groups to meet digitally and ensure all our members wo have a learning disability have a helpline and support structure in place, no matter the problem.
ACE Connect has been a lifeline for Heather. She can call the helpline, email the team, or join in with the calendar of Zoom sessions to get help and advice, or just see a friendly face and have a conversation when feeling lonely. This has really helped Heather cope with anxiety throughout lockdown, which has been a major challenge for her.
With your support and donations, ACE Connect can continue to help people who have a learning disability to stay connected, active, informed and engaged throughout this really difficult time.
Please sponsor Heather for the Virtual Kiltwalk weekend to help ENABLE Scotland maintain this crucial support system for children and adults who have a learning disability – and if you sponsor Heather before the deadline of 21st September 2020, Sir Tom Hunter has promised to top up your donation by 50%!
Thank you so much for your support – we really can’t do this without you.
