We recognise that currently our membership is not representative of the modern, multicultural society in which we live, so for this reason, we are committed to increasing our participation within ethnically diverse communities by recruiting Diverse Communities Facilitators, who are fluent in community languages to further strengthen our reach and build strong relationships with people who have a learning disability and their families across ethnically diverse communities.

Primary Job Purpose

The primary role of the Diverse Communities Facilitator is to lead the development and facilitation of ENABLE Scotland’s ACE and Family Connect Strategy with a particular focus on engagement with ethnically diverse communities.

The Diverse Communities Facilitator will work with our members towards an equal society for every person who has a learning disability. They will:

work to grow the ENABLE Community in their area with a particular focus on the building of relationships and connections with people within ethnically diverse communities.
work with the organisation to develop relationships, tools and resources to encourage engagement with with individuals and families who identify as part of ethnically diverse communities.
coordinate and facilitate ACE groups for all, in line with the ENABLE Scotland Participation Plan.
coordinate and facilitate Family Connect groups in line with the ENABLE Scotland Participation Plan.

About You

At ENABLE Scotland we are striving towards an equal society for all people who have a learning disability. To support our engagement the ideal candidate will have fluency in English and at least one other language.

The ideal candidate would be supportive of our ambitions to engage meaningfully with the wider community and be willing, as part of their role, to share their insight into how we can improve our approach to inclusivity as a committed anti-racist organisation.

Key responsibilities:

Work to grow the ENABLE Community in their area with a particular focus on the building of relationships and connections with ethnically diverse communities.
Develop relationships, tools and resources which encourage engagement with individuals and families who identify as part of a minority ethnic groups.
Facilitate one ACE and one Family connect workshop per month in each area in accordance with the voice of the membership and the participation plan.
Support members to identify and action a local issue/campaign to make positive changes in their local community.
Identify areas of interest of development and proactively look for opportunities for connection.
Support members to participate in National ACE and Scottish Council (Each of these meetings occur four times per year on Saturdays and are the forums which guide the activities of ACE, and of the charity as a whole)
Support members to be involved in local and national fundraising activities.

People and financial management:

Recruit and supervise local volunteers and peer supporters, in line with the ENABLE Scotland Participation Plan.
Coach and support ACE Co-Facilitators who have a Learning Disability in line with the ENABLE Scotland Co-facilitator Training Programme.
Ensure that all activity is undertaken in a cost-effective way.
Adhere to ENABLE Scotland financial management policies.
Adhere to ENABLE Scotland safeguarding policies.
Adhere to all other ENABLE Scotland policies and procedures.

Event and Meeting Management:

Plan for, risk assess and facilitate local Group meetings every month.
Contribute to planning for and delivery of quarterly National ACE meetings.
Facilitate attendance at quarterly National ACE meeting.
Contribute to planning for and delivery of Scottish Council meetings.
Facilitate attendance Scottish Council meetings.
Facilitate the participation of ACE members in all appropriate ENABLE Scotland events.
