About The Role

Hurlford

28 HOURS PER WEEK

Personal Assistants have the most important role within ENABLE Scotland by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes – whatever they may be!

Each person we support has different support needs, so your role may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.

ENABLE Scotland creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.

The Best in You Brings Out the Best in Me

The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities. A career with ENABLE Scotland is as rewarding as it is diverse, Personal Assistants at their best have the potential to truly bring out the best in the people we support.

Let us introduce you to David:

People who know me will say that it takes time for me to trust and build up a relationship. I am a friendly person with a good sense of humour. I love to be active and I like to have a busy weekly planner with lots of activities to do.

David uses some verbal communication to indicate his choices and is supported to use other communication aids to help him when communicating with others.  David’s relationship with his family is very important to him and he requires his Personal Assistants to support him to maintain good links.  At present, connecting with them using video technology is very important.   David’s friends are also important to him and he likes to see them regularly and enjoys socialising and being in the company of others.

David’s staff team involve him in his social events asking what he would like to do – it may be going to the theatre to see bands he likes, horse racing or outings with friends. He is also very fond of animals, he likes to visit the local Farm Park where he will view the pigs, monkeys and will participate in the animal handling sessions which he really enjoys.

David really enjoys journeys in his mobility car that is driven by his team of personal assistants when supporting him. He has specific health diagnoses which can cause him pain and impact to his mobility. David requires the use of his wheelchair when outdoors and he will walk around his house and sometimes in the garden if he feels able to do so.

You must hold a full UK licence and be confident in driving a car as David likes to visit numerous places of various distances including trips to Dumfries.

You should be committed, reliable, motivated, proactive, creative and enthusiastic as well as adaptable.  A good sense of humour is a must.  You must also have a positive and flexible outlook to your work and be able to work on your own and as part of a team.  An understanding of person-centred values are key to supporting me to plan and work towards my outcomes. Flexibility is required as the hours of work may vary. Experience is desirable although not essential, only the right attitude and values are essential.
