4. Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

This Act states that employers can ask for details of criminal convictions for certain jobs. If the job you are applying for is exempt under the Act, we shall state this on the job description and you will need to disclose both ‘spent’ and ‘unspent’ convictions. If we do not state this on the job description, we shall ask for a basic convictions check only, which gives details of ‘unspent’ convictions.

ENABLE Scotland requires all staff to undertake a convictions check and therefore request all applicants to answer the following questions and sign the declaration below. The current cost of a convictions check is GBP 59. ENABLE Scotland will deduct this cost over 3 months' salary payments in 3 instalments of GBP 20 and GBP 19 (if applicable). All applicants are advised that ENABLE Scotland has a policy on the recruitment of ex-offenders, available upon request, and that criminal record will not necessarily debar you from working with ENABLE Scotland.
