This is not a traditional carer role, our PA’s have an extremely important part to play in supporting people to achieve the things that matter most to them and help them to live the life they choose; working with both internal teams and external contacts – such as families and friends – to help achieve this.

We spoke to Kris, a current Personal Assistant, who chose a new career in social care after working in construction and warehousing. Here’s what he had to say:

“I joined ENABLE Scotland after having previously worked in construction, warehousing, retail and in offices. When I saw the post online, I wasn’t sure if I would hear anything because I had little to no experience but I got accepted for an interview and got the job. My job involves going to the gym, walking and socialising with the people I support. The best parts of the job are the individuals, they have different personalities that shine through and the ones I work with are prone to a good (or bad) joke. Also it’s very rewarding knowing you are making a difference in someone’s life for their benefit. I’d recommend getting involved, it’s the best decision I’ve made for not only a job, but a career”.
