Remembering ACE member Neil Berry
It is with huge sadness that we announce a much-loved member of the ENABLE Family passed away on Wednesday 15th December.
Neil Berry and his partner, Sheila, joined the Aberdeen ACE group when it started in 2018. He soon became an active campaigner, and was skilled in getting his point across clearly, but with good humour and an understanding of other people’s points of view.
An avid fundraiser, Neil completed all four Kiltwalks in 2019, while even managing to squeeze in a visit to the Edinburgh tattoo the night before the Dundee walk!
Over the pandemic, Neil became a regular participant on ACE Connect, attending many of the sessions on offer, but particularly enjoying games, quizzes and Friday night Karaoke – he had a beautiful voice.
It was while spending time online at ACE Connect, Neil struck up a friendship with Falkirk ACE Member David Allan. Their mutual love of a practical joke and the TV show ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ meant that they will forever be Buster and Dermot to us!
Together, they forged a friendship through lockdown and shared their experiences of meeting up safely with others on an episode of ENABLE Talks to help other people feel more confident to get out and about after the last lockdown. This community spirit resulted in David and Neil being awarded the Community Connection award at this year’s ENABLE Scotland AGM.
Neil was an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and funny man who will be deeply missed by us all. Our love and fond memories go out to his family.
Neil’s funeral will be broadcast on Microsoft teams today (Wednesday 22 December) at 3.15 pm. For joining details contact Charlotte at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Neil’s family have set up a Just Giving page in memory of him and their chosen charity is ENABLE Scotland.
