About The Role

Dunfermline

20 HOURS PER WEEK

Are you interested in working for an award winning social care charity?

Personal Assistants (Support Workers) have the most important role within Enable by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. No two days are the same for our Personal Assistants but what we can guarantee is that you will be supporting someone with a learning disability to achieve their goals and outcomes – whatever they may be!

Each person we support has different support needs, so your role as Support Worker may include assisting them with various aspects of personal care, moving and handling or positive behavioural support whilst expanding their social networks and connections.

Enable creates a bespoke team around every individual we support, and our team of Personal Assistants work collaboratively to ensure the safety, wellbeing and aspirations of the people we support are met.

The Best in You Brings Out the Best in Me

The people we support have many varied interests and hobbies and have many of the same dreams and aspirations as we do; they just too often do not get the opportunity to experience these same opportunities. A career with Enable is as rewarding as it is diverse, Personal Assistants at their best have the potential to truly bring out the best in the people we support.

Let me introduce you to James

I am 18 years old. I live with my mum and my older brother in a fully adapted home in the Dunfermline Locality of Fife.  I have a diagnosis of Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy and use a wheelchair to support me, Epilepsy, Significant Learning Disability and I am registered blind.  I require consistent 24/7 care which my mum supports me with.  I am looking for an amazing team of people to provide me with care and support for 18 hours per week, over three days.  I need help with all aspects of day to day living to ensure I am safe and well.  So my team will need to help me with personal care, medication and eating my meals.  Importantly, they must be prepared to support me to have fun, experience new adventures, feel the wind and sun on my face (not so fussed about feeling the rain!).  I also enjoy some chill time, so helping me to relax is important too.

I am a very sociable person and enjoy the company of my friends and other people.  I like to know what my friends are getting up too and I enjoy jokes and laughing, I especially love a tiny bit of mischief!  It is important to me to know the people who are supporting me and what is going on around me, so me and my mum will help you get to know me and how I communicate.  I know most people from their voices and whilst I love fun and excitement, I don’t love loud noises – so helping to prepare me if you know a loud noise is coming is really important.  Stay close by me too if you know this is going to happen, this makes me feel a little better.

Generally I am a very happy person.  I like to explore all things that the world has to offer and I also like a bit of adventure.  I like to watch good movies.  I love relaxing and listening to my music.  I have a wide taste in music and love to have time in my room, unwinding from a busy day at school listening to my tunes. I enjoy bowling and recently went up to St Andrew’s to the Beech!

Overall, I love life and moving into adulthood it is important for me to have quality time with a team who know me well.  Routine and purpose is very important to me and I look forward to getting up and getting out for the day. I like a good plan. I am looking forward to being a young adult, but I am also a little nervous about leaving my school, my team and my friends.  It is important for me, and my family, to be supported through these changes and I need a great team of people to help me do this.  I would like my team to be:

* kind

* fully trained to meet all of my complex health needs (training will be offered!)

* able to communicate well with me and understand all of my subtle ques (you will be provided support to get to know me, my fantastic mum knows me so well!)

* funny

*happy to go on adventures with me

*comfortable to help me with all of my personal care needs

*some of my team need to be able to drive.  I have my mobility car but need a chauffer!
