As we enter National Apprenticeship Week, we recognise the importance of this week as we work towards an equal society where everyone has the right to live, work, and participate in the communities of their choice.

Enable Works is a leading specialist in supporting people who face barriers to employment, helping them to move into sustainable career of their choice.

We are showcasing some of the real-life stories that have been shaped by the work that we do.

We caught up with Modern Apprentice Zak about his journey.

A Breaking Barriers graduate, Zak is now a Modern Apprentice at The Scottish FA. He completed Enable’s Breaking Barriers programme and is taking part in a Modern Apprenticeship with The Scottish FA. In his role as an Inclusion Administrator, he supports the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team and helps football clubs meet their responsibilities.

Zak said: “The reason The Scottish FA does work involving equality, diversity and inclusion is to ensure that all feel welcome and can feel respected without any discrimination. In my job I have developed skills such as confidence, communication and problem solving.”

With support from Enable Works, he has:

  • Gained valuable administration experience, supported by Ssportscotland and Enable Works.

  • Actively supported equality, diversity, and inclusion at The Scottish FA, helping ensure football is welcoming and accessible to all.

  • Monitored club licensing to ensure Scottish football clubs meet their responsibilities, contributing to the representation of disabled people in sport.

We will also be spotlighting this week - Emma’s Journey.

Emma began an 18‑month Business Administration apprenticeship with JudoScotland through a partnership between the sportscotland Modern Apprenticeship programme and Enable Works. With support from Enable Works, she has:

  • Successfully begun an apprenticeship and contributes to membership services, administration, and event support.

  • Built a professional network and is advancing her qualifications.

  • Helped promote disability inclusion and diversify the workforce within JudoScotland.
