ENABLE Works Services

ENABLE Works is a specialist employability service, working across 21 Scottish local authorities and supporting over 1,500 people each year. Each year, ENABLE Works supports thousands of employers all over Scotland to welcome people who have a learning disability or other support needs into their workforce.

Stepping Up Live

Right now, all ENABLE Works teams are working remotely – ensuring the people we support stay engaged, focussed and healthy – and that includes the Stepping Up teams.

So, whilst we will continue to work with the young people already on our Stepping Up programme – we want to do more at this time of crisis.

That’s why we are launching Stepping Up LIVE – offering individual support and guidance, remotely, to ALL young people with additional support needs in the senior phase of school ANYWHERE in Scotland.

If you contact enable.works@enable.org.uk, we will organise individual sessions with young people available via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp video or simply over the phone.

Initially, we will work with you to do some vocational profiling and get to understand your skills and ambitions – but then we will agree a series of support and skills training sessions for as long as is helpful to you in securing a positive transition from school.

We have a team of Stepping Up Employment Coordinators who all work in schools and are very experienced in supporting planning and advice for a positive transition – and their advice and guidance is now available to you now at the press of a button through Stepping Up LIVE.

We want to make sure that, in the face of the current crisis, young people with additional support needs are not facing transition from school alone.

Stepping Up is an innovative project delivering employability skills to young people who have additional support needs in schools across Scotland. Stepping Up works with pupils in their senior phase to help them identify, address and remove barriers to their positive transition into adulthood.

With a 98% positive destination rate, we have worked in 11 local authority areas to support more than 1,500 young people who have additional support needs and 25% of young people engaged have gone into a job.

Breaking Barriers

Breaking Barriers is a ground breaking partnership enabling young people who have learning disabilities to attend one of the leading business schools in the UK within a university campus, achieve an accredited qualification and gain real work experience with some of the largest employers in Scotland.

The first-of-its-kind initiative, delivered by partners The University of Strathclyde Business School, Scottish Power, and ENABLE Scotland has already been recognised as a pioneering project in the Scottish Charity Awards 2018; and has been shortlisted for the Widening Access Award in The Herald Higher Education Awards.
