With the support of Enable Works, Annalise is now a Welding Apprentice and building her own career in the construction and trades sector.

Annalise had a clear ambition to build a career in construction and trades sector, but sometimes found new environments and meeting new people challenging, which affected her confidence in pursuing employment opportunities.

Through personalised support from Enable Works, she developed the confidence, skills and self-belief to pursue her ambitions in a traditionally male-dominated industry.

Working closely with her dedicated Employment Coordinator, Annalise developed a personalised action plan focused on her strengths, aspirations and career goals. Through consistent one-to-one support, she built her confidence, developed essential employability skills and gained the self-belief to take the next steps towards employment.

Annalise secured a place on the ECITB Trainee Maintenance Operative Programme at Forth Valley College, where she was the only female participant. Her hard work and determination saw her finish top of her class, secure the only permanent position offered by programme sponsor Altrad and receive the ECITB New Entrant Award.

When Annalise later faced redundancy, she drew on the confidence and resilience she had developed. With continued support from Enable Works, she successfully secured a Welding Apprenticeship with BAE Systems in Glasgow, contributing to the construction of naval vessels for the Royal Navy.

Today, Annalise is thriving as one of only two female apprentices on the programme. She is working towards her NC Level 6 qualification, developing specialist welding skills and looking ahead to further qualifications and career progression.

Beyond her professional achievements, employment has brought Annalise greater confidence, independence and new opportunities, including the chance to enjoy her first holiday to Jamaica. She has also shared her journey at events, inspiring other young people to pursue their ambitions and challenging perceptions of what disabled people can achieve. Her achievements and commitment to promoting inclusive employment have also been recognised through her nomination for the David Grainger Award at the 2026 BASE Awards.

Reflecting on her experience with Enable Works, Annalise said:
