This year, Scottish Learning Disability Week moves to September, and we’re proud to support this important week.
Organised by the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities (SCLD), the theme is I Am Here. As SCLD says, “This week is a time to celebrate people with learning disabilities. It’s about making Scotland a fairer place, where people with learning disabilities are respected, included, and have equal opportunities in all areas of life."
To show our support, we’re highlighting the work we do at Enable Communities – energising communities through action and self-advocacy so that everyone has the opportunity to:
live independently in the community of their choice,
access their human rights to participate as active and respected citizens through work, friends, and relationships
exercise their right under Article 30 of the UN Convention (UNCRPD) to participate in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport.
13,000 members and supporters across 32 local authorities
2,000 people supported each year through our charitable projects
Member campaigns like ‘Rights Now!’ support people with learning disabilities to advocate for their rights to self-directed care, inclusive education and employment, community inclusion, and to hold public bodies accountable.
But behind every number is a person and it’s their stories we want to share. Every day, Enable works towards our vision of an equal society where everyone has the right to live, work, and participate as active and respected citizens in the communities of their choice.
We look forward to sharing our insights, stories and showing our support during Scottish Learning Disability Week 2025.
