Scottish Careers Week 2025, taking place from 10–14 November, is a nationwide campaign led by Skills Development Scotland (SDS). Under the theme ‘Shape the Future’, the initiative aims to inspire and inform people of all ages about the wide range of career opportunities available across Scotland. It highlights emerging sectors, evolving job roles, and the real-life stories of individuals building their futures with the support of Scotland’s modern careers service.
At Enable Works, we are proud to be part of this national movement. Throughout the week, we will share stories of individuals who have overcome barriers to employment, demonstrating the impact of inclusive partnerships and tailored support.
We design and deliver tailored programmes that build confidence , skills, and long-term employability for individuals, while partnering with local authorities and employers to meet evolving workforce needs.
Through our inclusive recruitment expertise, targeted interventions, and strong employer networks, we create pathways into work and deliver sector-leading sustainability outcomes that are economically and socially transformative for communities across Scotland.
Matthew joined Enable Works’ All in Forth Valley programme directly from school with a clear passion for sports coaching especially athletics. An active and driven young person, he had always enjoyed sport both in and out of school.
Through personalised support, Matthew began volunteering with local athletics clubs to build confidence and gain hands-on coaching experience. His positive impact quickly became clear to the coaches he worked with, and before long, Matthew was offered paid employment.
Through his commitment and performance, Matthew secured a role as an Athletics Coach with Pitreavie Athletics Club in Dunfermline and Grangemouth Stadium. His journey shows that #YouCan turn a passion into a profession and move into high-quality work that aligns with your ambitions.
Matthew will continue to receive ongoing support from Enable Works as he develops his coaching skills and progresses in his new career.
Leon was referred to Enable Works through Moray Pathways for help securing employment. Through our Moray SWAP programme, he received support with CV creation, job searching, and training opportunities. Leon also faced challenges with anxiety, which affected his engagement, but with a tailored support plan and consistent guidance from his Employment Coordinator, his confidence began to grow.
Leon shared that he was interested in physical, outdoor roles but wasn’t sure what options might be available. We identified an opportunity at Burgie Farms Estate for an Assistant Groundskeeper position and supported him through the application process.
Leon was successful and began working 25 hours per week for six months. Now more than two months into the role, his manager’s report says he is performing extremely well—and Leon himself is enjoying his new job and the routine it provides. His journey shows that #YouCan find a career that reflects your interests and build a future that works for you.
When Beth joined Enable Works in April 2024, she hadn’t worked in over ten years and was feeling nervous about returning to employment. With support from her Employment Coordinator, she explored her goals and realised she wanted to become a driver.
They worked together to improve her confidence and make sure she had the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in her job search. After attending a recruitment fair, Beth impressed Ratho Coaches and was offered a part-time bus driving role. Since then, she’s grown in confidence, taking on more driving responsibilities and working towards her coach licence.
Beth feels incredibly proud of how far she’s come, and her journey shows that it’s never too late to find a job you love.
When Brandon joined the Next Steps programme, his goal was to build the confidence and skills to become a mechanic. At first, he was quiet and found busy places difficult, but his determination never wavered.
With encouragement, he attended a large charity event linked to the programme’s funders. He surprised himself by enjoying the experience and chatting with some of the organisers marking a real boost in his confidence.
Over time, Brandon’s engagement grew, and his hard work paid off when he secured an apprenticeship with a local garage. He proudly shared that before joining Next Steps, he wouldn’t have had the confidence to hand in his CV in person.
Now, Brandon is thriving in his role, and his employers are delighted to have him on the team. His journey shows that with confidence, the right support, and determination, #YouCan achieve incredible things.
As we celebrate Scottish Careers Week 2025, we reaffirm our belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to build a career that reflects their talents, ambitions, and potential.
