Trustee
Dr Margaret Whoriskey is Head of the technology enabled care and digital healthcare innovation division within Scottish Government. She is responsible for the national Technology Enabled Care programme which supports at-scale deployment of proven technologies in Scotland. Margaret also leads the International Engagement Team for Digital Health and Care for Scotland. Until November 2015 Margaret was director of the Joint Improvement Team (JIT) in Scotland having joined when it was established in 2005. Margaret trained as a clinical psychologist and worked in clinical and managerial positions in the NHS for many years. From 1998, and prior to joining JIT, Margaret worked in a national capacity with the Scottish Health Advisory Services (latterly NHS Quality Improvement Scotland) and as a commissioner with the Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland. Margaret was recently named in the top 10 of the UK’s Digital Leader of the Year Award.

Professor Eleanor Shaw, OBE is an associate principal at the University of Strathclyde with responsibility for the University’s entrepreneurship strategy, 'Strathclyde Inspire'. She is also director of Strathclyde Doctoral School. Eleanor joined Strathclyde in 2001 and became head of the Hunter Centre in 2013. She has been vice dean for Knowledge Exchange and senior vice dean of Strathclyde Business School. In January 2020, Eleanor became an associate principal and joined the University’s executive team. Eleanor’s research is focused on the practice of entrepreneurial networking and firm growth. She focuses on entrepreneurial diversity and her work on women’s, graduate, social and creative entrepreneurship is published in leading journals including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship, Theory & Practice, Human Relations and International Small Business Journal. Eleanor is an inclusive entrepreneurial leader with more than 25years’ experience of enhancing business growth. Complimenting her research and teaching interests, Eleanor sits on the Council of the Chartered Association of Business Schools, the Small Business Charter Management Board, the People, Talent and Leadership Committee, ScaleUp Institute and is a trustee of the Beatson Cancer Charity. Eleanor joined the Enable group board in 2022.
Vice Chair and Chair of Nominations and Remuneration Committee
Vice Chair and Chair of Nominations and Remuneration Committee A solicitor specialising in employment law, Paul is the founder/director of McMahon Employment Law, an award-winning specialist employment law practice. With 20 years’ experience, he advises employers on the full spectrum of employment law and HR issues including recruitment, contractual issues, TUPE and restructure advice, discipline and grievance, absence management, family-friendly rights, discrimination and dismissal. Paul is also an employment judge, sitting in tribunals across Scotland. In addition to teaching post-graduate law students on the legal practice course at The University of Strathclyde, and having taught on employment law masters courses, Paul regularly provides practical training to clients and speaks at conferences. Paul has been recognised by the UK-wide independent legal directories, The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, in the field of employment law in Scotland. Paul joined the Enable Scotland board in January 2017.
Chair of Clinical Safeguarding Advisory Group
Tony is an experienced and respected communications and corporate affairs director, who has worked with some of the most recognisable brands and politicians in the UK. He is the former director of media relations for the Scottish Labour Party and was a press adviser to former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown during his leadership campaign. Passionate about social justice and a sustainable economy, Tony now oversees corporate and government affairs in Scotland and sustainability and food waste campaigns for Tesco.
Trustee
As head of risk and compliance at Johnston Carmichael, Shareen is responsible for governance, risk management and regulatory compliance. Having previously been a solicitor at a large Scottish law firm, she has also acted as in-house counsel in both the private and public sector, most recently as a general counsel and company secretary in the renewables sector. Shareen was named Young In-house Lawyer of the Year in 2010 at the British Legal Awards. In addition to her trustee role at Enable, Shareen also serves as a trustee at Citizens Advice Scotland and Govan Community Project, a charity that works to build links between diverse communities in the area.
Trustee
Martin is executive director of finance at Glasgow City Council. He has been in this post since May 2018 after spending eight years as director of finance and corporate services at Glasgow Life. Prior to this, Martin worked for COSLA where he led on negotiations with the Scottish Government over financial settlements and drafted the Concordat. Martin was also managing director of Isoplan and previously worked in management consultancy for IBM and PWC. Martin started his career as a trainee accountant with Glasgow District Council and worked for a number of local authorities before being part of the senior management team that opened HMP Kilmarnock.
Chair of Audit & Risk Committee
Katie is a chartered accountant, and is currently an audit partner for RSM. In her role, she has worked with a variety of organisations including charities, small owner managed businesses, PE backed entities and large complex international groups. She is a career specialist in all areas of risk and financial governance. Whilst at KPMG, where she trained, Katie was a member of the corporate responsibility forum helping to promote charitable initiatives and was a founding member of the number partners scheme in Glasgow helping primary school children with maths skills. She is currently a member of the empower group in RSM, helping to promote opportunities for all across the Scottish region. Katie joined the Enable Scotland board in 2020 and has served as a co-opted member of the audit and risk committee since 2018.
Trustee
Beth is the founder and CEO of Positive and Active Behaviour Support Scotland (PABSS). Beth’s son Calum has a learning disability and complex additional support needs including epilepsy. In 2010, Calum was seriously injured due to a restraint in school. Realising there was no government guidance on the use of physical intervention in Scotland’s schools, Beth became a passionate campaigner, inspiring Enable’s ‘In Safe Hands?’ campaign. In 2018 Beth was honoured to be named an ‘Outstanding Women of Scotland’ by the Saltire Society. In 2019 she was a Times Education Supplement ‘Person of the Year’ and in 2020 was awarded an Amnesty International Award. Beth is also a member of Enable’s Scottish Council and in 2017 was awarded its Outstanding Achievement Award for her contribution to Enable’s ‘Included in the Main’ campaign. Her campaigning is now UK wide and she co-ordinates with many interested parties including charities, professionals in the field of learning disability, and each of the Children’s Commissioner’s for Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland in ensuring the rights of the most vulnerable children in society are respected and upheld. Beth also serves as Board representative on our member-led Scottish Council.
Chair (Interim)
Alan is a corporate lawyer of considerable experience, and is currently partner and head of the restructuring and insolvency team at Morton Fraser Lawyers. Although primarily based within the corporate team, Alan works closely with litigation, commercial real estate, banking and asset finance teams. Alan has been involved in many high-profile insolvencies in Scotland over several years. He specialises in advising on corporate restructuring and insolvency. He is a very experienced and well-respected practitioner who routinely advises insolvency practitioners, lenders and other stakeholders in all aspects of corporate distress situations. He advises in connection with SMEs and larger companies and groups. Alan has significant experience of dealing with pre-packs and retail insolvencies, and all aspects of administrations, liquidations, receiverships and company voluntary arrangements. As well as his experience in insolvency, Alan has a significant expertise in ABL including drafting standard form Scottish ABL documentation and the structuring of the funding of acquisition transactions through ABL.
