October is Black History Month, a time to recognise and celebrate the history, heritage, achievements and contributions of Black communities. It is also an opportunity to learn, reflect and consider how we can all help create a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive.
This year, EDEN is proud to have marked Black History Month through a series of events centred around the theme "Honouring Our Communities". The theme recognises the everyday Black individuals, community groups and often unseen contributions that help shape and sustain our society.
It shines a light on the everyday Black individuals, grassroots groups and community organisations whose contributions often go unrecognised, yet play a vital role in shaping, supporting and strengthening the communities around us. It encourages us to celebrate the people whose stories, experiences, achievements and leadership continue to inspire positive change.
Since launching in 2024, EDEN has created a safe space for antiracism conversations, providing opportunities for colleagues to share their experiences, learn from one another and contribute to meaningful discussions about diversity, inclusion and belonging. Through these conversations, colleagues have helped build a stronger understanding of the barriers faced by individuals from different backgrounds and the actions we can take together to create lasting change.
During Black History Month, colleagues have had the opportunity to come together to celebrate Black history and culture, hear from inspiring speakers, take part in discussions around antiracism and reflect on the role we all play in creating an inclusive workplace. These activities support Enable's ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, while helping to foster a culture where everyone feels they belong.
Black History Month is not only a celebration of the past and present contributions of Black communities, but also a reminder that creating an inclusive organisation is a shared responsibility. By listening, learning and supporting one another, we can continue to build a workplace that values diversity and empowers everyone to succeed.
